The director of UNESCO regional office in Iran, representative of UNESCO in Turkmenistan, Abdin Salih, and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed issues of further expansion of cooperation yesterday. The UN resident coordinator in Turkmenistan, Richard Young, also attended the meeting.
As the Turkmenistan.ru's correspondent reports, during the meeting Abdin Salih informed the head of state about the inclusion of the unique historical-architectural monument Nisa in the UNESCO world heritage list and expressed gratitude to the president of Turkmenistan for active cooperation with UNESCO in preservation of cultural heritage.
Having expressed his support to reforms in the sphere of education as well as to reopening of the Academy of Science of Turkmenistan, Abdin Salih offered UNESCO's assistance in training specialists in various spheres, including in the sphere of restoration works. In this context, the high official of UNESCO presented his vision of prospects for further cooperation in various areas, including education, nature protection, telecommunications, science and high tech. Abdin Salih emphasized that owing to the natural potential, rich flora and fauna Turkmenistan has every reason to keep supplementing the UNESCO world heritage list which includes not only architectural but also natural monuments.
