Aug. 8, 2009 - the white gown of the

Pink roses can represent a variety of concepts, probably due to the vast array of hues available. Deep pink, for example, often signifies appreciation, while light pink represents sweetness and joy. Coral, which is closely related to pink, denotes desire and excitement, and peach, another close relative, signifies sympathy and modesty. Clearly, when it comes to roses, the shades of pink carry the most varied associations. However, none of them would be considered inappropriate for a wedding, and pink roses of any and all shades are extremely popular for nuptial celebrations.
In Western culture, there is no flower more steeped in romance than the rose. There are a thousand romantic quotes pertaining to this flower. Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, Gertrude Stein-all were moved to put mankind's relationship with the rose into words. I believe my personal favorite is John Boyle O'Reilly's "The red rose whispers of passion/And the white rose breathes of love; O, the red rose is a falcon, And the white rose is a dove."
The white rose, much like the white gown of the bride, is a symbol of purity and innocence. In days gone by, it was of the utmost importance that a bride be pure, or "untouched." Today, although many people take a more lenient view on this topic, the white rose can still represent the purity of love and the beauty of new beginnings.

Aug. 8, 2009 - to convey the enchantment

Yellow roses are a symbol of friendship, happiness and warmth. As a result, they can often be the flower of choice for young men to give to young women during the teen years; yellow roses can be used to signal a romantic interest without the emotional risks of the passionate red rose. Although some brides may not want to use yellow roses at their weddings for this reason, others recognize that friendship is an essential part of any marriage. Additionally, yellow roses make an attractive addition to most other colors.
Red roses, of course, are the epitome of passionate true love. As Robert Burns said "Oh, my luve's [sic] like a red, red rose." Nor surprisingly, this hue remains overwhelmingly popular with lovers and at weddings. It also doesn't hurt that red roses are breathtakingly beautiful and don't require a great deal of additional ornamentation, if any.
Purple roses have become popular in recent years. They are still a relatively rare and therefore exotic option. This color expresses the feeling of love at first sight, one of the most traditionally romantic concepts in our society. This color can be used to convey the enchantment the couple feels with each other.

Aug. 8, 2009 - well known for its fine selection

In addition to ceramics there are also lessons devoted to the history and how-to of fused, slumped, and cast glass. Warm glass techniques date back to the second millennium B.C.E. in Mesopotamia, and were considered the equal of gold and silver in ancient Greece and Rome. The era of blown glass objects d'art eclipsed the warm glass technique, but it has been revived and become a popular medium for contemporary artists. These lessons show how to use glass stringers, frits and confetti to create fused glass plates, shaped vessels, and jewelry.

Aug. 8, 2009 - you are almost guaranteed

This is an art history lesson which traces the development of this art form from the first millennium B.C.E. to the present. Copiously illustrated with examples from ancient Persia, Babylonia, Greece, and China, the story continues through Renaissance Majolica tile-making; up to contemporary uses of tile wall murals in modern art and architecture. This Power Point Presentation concludes with instructions on how a group tile wall mural project can be used to bring school students, their parents, and faculty members together to create a delightful all school experience.
Other popular lesson plans cover such topics as sculpture in both history and how-to; lithography and other print-making techniques; paper-making and paper sculpture; working in Chinese-style bronze; making Japanese-style tea bowls and garden lanterns; and making Mexican-style skulls for the Day of the Dead. There are also special lessons on dinosaurs, insects, life in a coral reef; and prehistoric cave art.
If you search the web these days, you are almost guaranteed to find an extensive library of free lesson plans and project ideas for schools, occupational therapy, and craft centers. Collections of lesson plans, Power Point presentations, and technique sheets offer a very wide range of art topics, and give art teachers and occupational therapists a terrific place to begin creating educational lessons which combine art history with hands on activities in the classroom.

Aug. 8, 2009 - archipelago of islands nearly

The Caribbean. This archipelago of islands nearly 2000 square miles across is a favorite vacation destination of sun worshipers and beach-goers. Famous for it¡¯s beauty and nature, most of the islands are plateaus and eruptions of underlying mountain systems. The beaches are gorgeous with deep blue water and crushed coral, white and pink sand. If you want to lounge around on the beach and relax in an atmosphere of beauty than this is your destination.
A lesson especially designed with younger students in mind starts with commercially-made flower pots which are cleaned by firing and then given to the children to decorate as their imaginations will. This lesson familiarizes students with basic ceramic theory and terms, and gives them hands-on experience in decorating pots with underglazes and velvets. Underglaze pencils and crayons can be applied to create individualistic designs; younger children can use sponge painting with liquid underglazes before placing their work on the ware cart to be fired in the kiln.
Most cruises will offer lectures and seminars on everything from the culture of your next port-of-call to the wines being offered with the evenings' entrees. If you love the food, you may be lucky enough to sit in on a cooking lesson with the ship's chef (or even a visiting celebrity chef!) One cruise line will even let you earn SCUBA certification before you reach the next great coral reef.

Aug. 6, 2009 - pendant and accented the cameo

I always like to try the piece on and make sure it hangs well and doesn't do anything funny. Sometimes when you use a thicker Accuflex with heavy beads it can become too tight or too loose or hang weird. I like to try it on several times throughout the process to make sure I'm happy with the length etc.
Once I chose a pendant, I then advance to the bead section. I always choose something that compliments that pendant in color, texture and size. For example, if I was going to choose a Indian coral and turquoise pendant, most likely I would use a similar stone for the beading that matched in color and size. Maybe a small nugget torquise or round coral bead. Another example would be a black and white cameo pendant. Most likely I would pair it with a round onyx stone that was smaller than the pendant and accented the cameo. You can also be creative and a bit funky and try mixing a black and white cameo with some cool stone as well.
Begin stringing the beads along the wire. Use whatever pattern you chose above. For example: 3 beads, 1 silver spacer, 1 crystal, 1 silver spacer, 3 beads....and keep repeating.

Aug. 6, 2009 - balanced is to concentrate on complementary

What makes it easy to combine interesting beading combinations when using complementary colors is the fact that this system works with all shades of the complementary pair. In the case of blue and orange, lighter shades of orange, such as apricot or beige, will look great with all shades of blue, such as dark blue, soft blues or strong primal blues. The darker shades of orange, such as russets and browns, will look equally fascinating contrasted with pale blues. There is an endless possibility of mixing these two colors with all their shades to create beautiful beaded jewelry. The art of beading allows you to be so creative when working with colors. The wide choice of beads in all shapes and colors makes it possible to create that perfect piece for your outfit. This naturally allows you to create a very individual accent which makes you so special.
A tip to help you make this task easier is to concentrate on one color and its different shades. It is, however, very inspiring to work with various colors. You do require considerable knowledge of colors to be able to do this effectively. An easy way to be sure that your color combinations are well balanced is to concentrate on complementary colors. The colors that are opposite each other on a color wheel are complementary. This means that they harmonize well together.
When the calm, pensive blue is paired with the vividly fun loving orange, it takes on quite a different expression. Blue is suddenly bold, friendly, energetic and strong. Indeed, it is most difficult for the dignified blue to resist the contagious vitality and exciting, pulsating energy of the gorgeous orange. One has the impression that there is a high energy flirt going on when these two colors are combined.

Aug. 6, 2009 - dispersion Scrolling gold work

Retro Period: 1935-1949- During this pre and post war period, much of the precious metals were melted down for war funds. White metals were surpassed by yellow, pink and green golds, often mixed together in jewelry pieces. A patriotic look was developed using rubies, sapphires and diamonds, sometimes synthesized and jewelry fell out of favor once the US entered the war in 1941. Three dimensional, sculptural ribbon, bows and folds of metal became popular.
Georgian Period: 1714-1830- The Georgian period used naturalistic designs of leaves, birds, ribbons, feathers, flowers and insects in engraved gemstones. Intaglio was employed in gemstone design. Cameo brooches were once again featured and earrings saw a rise in popularity with semi-precious stones embellishing these designs. Amethyst, turquoise, garnets and coveted pearls were seen in Georgian pieces.
Art Nouveau Period: 1890-1915- Frenchman Rene Jules Lalique and American Louis Comfort Tiffany were the leading Art Nouveau jewelry makers of the time. Art Nouveau was fantastical and stylized, using many flowing and feminine elements of vines, leaves, birds, scrolls, serpents, insects and flowers in its design. A transparent enamel, Plique-a-jour, was often employed without a metal backing for light dispersion. Scrolling gold work, pearls and cabochon gemstones were used in very elaborate and romantic period.

Aug. 6, 2009 - The Arts and Crafts Exhibitions Society

Mid-Victorian(Grand) Period: 1860-1885- Etruscan frame designs were employed in setting elaborate multi-colored stone jewelry. Rosettes, seashells, mosaics and fringes became extremely popular. In 1861, Prince Albert¡¯s death spawned the omnipresence of jet, a hard, black semi-precious stone able to be polished to a high sheen, in response and in mourning of the Prince¡¯s passing. Lockets, chains, brooches and cuff bracelets were in vogue in the 1880¡¯s.
Edwardian Period: 1901-1910- Extremely feminine and lacy jewelry with motifs of ribbons, stars, crescents, bows and wreaths of petite flowers gave the Edwardian jewelry its delicate impression. Many pieces of jewelry of this period have an all-white look, due to inclusion of platinum gold, diamonds, pearls and moonstones. Large colored gemstones were also center pieces in jewelry design.
Arts and Crafts Movement: 1894-1923- The Arts and Crafts Exhibitions Society was formed in 1888 in opposition to the mass-production ideals of the Industrial Revolution, preferring instead to keep their workmanship generalized. These craftsmen utilized brilliantly colored uncut stones and created metalwork of silver.

Jul. 30, 2009 - well as other parts of the world

Jewelry ¨C a magical word that exudes bright smiles, diamond-like glittering eyes and deep, longing sighs. Ever since the human race evolved into an intelligent straight-backed species, there are evidences that jewels in the form of precious crude metals and stones were collected and considered to be forms of splendor. There are several archeological findings of hand-made simple and elegant jewelry in various parts of the world. No wonder that in the modern age, jewelry has gained such an important status in the global market and a nation¡¯s fortune is decided upon its possession and utilization of gold and diamond mines.
This was created by two American silversmiths with very little capital in 1832 and the brand was established in 1878. This firm of fine jewelers became one of the country¡¯s prominent jewelry brands and now has a nationwide recognition. Bailey Banks & Biddle has grown to more than 70 retail locations in 31 states across the country and Puerto Rico.
Since 1916, Kay Jewelers, with it¡¯s headquarter in Ohio, has grown from one store to more than 800 from coast to coast. Together with Signet Group plc, its London-based parent company, Kay jewelers has been satisfying clientele in the US as well as other parts of the world.

Jul. 30, 2009 - your day feel special and personalized

Vintage can mean many things. Many different eras had distinct and fabulous style. Some times that you can consider borrowing from are: the Victorian age, the Jazz age (the Roaring '20s - very chic!), the 1940s for a totally glam look, the 1950s for a polished Grace Kelly inspired affair, or the swinging sixties for a mod wedding. Special note: the 1980s are not distant enough yet to be vintage - no one is ready to bring back the giant poufy sleeve look!
Many women feel like they relate to a particular time period (for me it's the 1950s - love those poodle skirts!). Why not take your favorite era as inspiration when planning your wedding? Traditions and customs are an important part of any wedding; highlight the ones that really inspire you in a fabulous vintage style wedding.
There are so many fun ways to make your wedding unique. To really customize your event, try borrowing ideas from the past. Having a vintage inspired wedding is a wonderful way to make your day feel special and personalized.

Jul. 30, 2009 - the more valuable it would be

Pearls rings are worn and given in different occasions. Rarely, these are used as birthstone engagement ring. Pearl is the birthstone of the month of June. One might think that a pearl is less costly than a diamond, it is true. However, pearls are more difficult to set and usually come with diamonds and other gemstones, so they actually turn out to be more expensive.
Your pearl ring will also have to be set in gold, silver, white gold or platinum and in designs that you prefer. You may give additional accent to the ring by combining the setting with diamonds or semi-precious stones. The craftsmanship will define the beauty of your ring, so take extra care in choosing the design. Jewelers offer a variety of designs to choose from that brings out the uniqueness in you.
The size of cultured pearls is measured in millimeters by the diameter. Seed pearls may be as small as one millimeter while a South Sea pearl could be as big as 20 millimeters. The average pearl ranges from 7-7.5 millimeters. The bigger the pearl, the more valuable it would be. Natural pearls, however, are measured in carats.

Jul. 30, 2009 - lead the world in high grade pearl culture

Then the new age began sometime in the late 60's or early 70's. China burst onto the pearl market with literally tons of pearls, mostly the small wrinkled keshi pearls with the non-glamorous nickname of rice krispies or potato pearls named for their shape. However not all the pearls were inferior, 2 % of those tons were higher grades. Soon realizing that the better grades were the pace to put their energies, pearl farmers began to emulate the techniques of the now extinct pearl center of Lake Biwa, Japan.
Although it seems as though pearl culturing is a fairly new thing, and China's entry into perliculture is only 40 some odd years old. Actually the truth is that pearl culturing began in China as long ago as 700 years ago.
Using similar techniques as the Japanese freshwater pearl farmers, they soon began culturing of the higher grades, shifting their attitudes about pearl farming; they oriented their production to quality and away from quantity. Now China is still improving the quality of freshwater pearls and their quality is rivaling the saltwater culturing of the akoya oyster. Undoubtedly, with costs steadily increasing in Japan, if the quality continues to advance, China will lead the world in high grade pearl culture.

Jul. 28, 2009 - In this article I will look at cufflinks from

Paul Smith is perhaps one of England's best loved fashion designers with his distinctive, slightly 1960s, British look. He has a very strong range of men's accessories which includes some wonderful cufflinks. Similar to Duchamp-London, classic shapes are given a unique twist with coloured enamelled patterns, such as the Paul Smith thin multi-stripe synonymous to the brand. There is a definite sense of fun running throughout the range, such as the classic British mini painted with the Paul Smith stripe.
Tateossian is a London based jewellery company, and as such their cufflinks are like pieces of jewellery with many incorporating precious stones such as onyx, mother of pearl, lapis, jade and even black diamonds. Their cufflinks are very high quality, with a close attention to detail. For example their football cufflinks feature a matching football boot, whilst their solid silver king skull cufflinks are decorated with Swarovski crystals in the crown and eyes. Tateossian cufflinks are ideally suited for special occasions and present a feeling of opulence and luxury. Tateossian are also well known for their mechanical cufflinks such as working thermometers, compasses and watches which can act as a real talking point.
There is a very large and diverse range of cufflinks, with something to suit every taste and personality. Each designer brand offers a unique look, but without knowing what sets them apart it is hard to find the right brand (and hence pair of cufflinks) for you. Some cufflink brands focus on classic sterling silver designs whilst others specialise in brightly coloured enamel cufflinks or sparkly crystal designs. There are several English designer brands that are particularly worth having a look at. In this article I will look at cufflinks from Duchamp-London, Tateossian, Simon Carter, Paul Smith, Tyler and Tyler, Murray Ward and Seven London.

Jul. 28, 2009 - range from pale to pretty good

Beryl is the March birthstone, with a hardness of between 7. Beryl is most frequently found in granite pegmatites. Chemically beryl is Be3 Al2 Si6 O18. Minerals in the beryl group are silicates of beryllium and aluminum, having the chemical formula Be3Al2(SiO3)6 Beryl is found as barrel-formed crystals. The rarest beryl is bixbite (red) and is not usually seen in jewelry as it occurs in only very small crystals. Beryl is a silicate of aluminum and beryllium crystallizing in the hexagonal system. Gem quality Golden Beryl is mined in Brazil, Virginia, and Madagascar.
Colombian emeralds are universally accepted as the finest emeralds in the world. It is Colombian emeralds against which all others are judged. However, many Colombian Emeralds are mined in lowest grade possible, especially, the Very light in color (sometimes called green beryl). Native peoples worked the Colombian emerald mines long before they were taken over by the Spanish in 1537. During the 16th century, vast quantities of Colombian emeralds entered the European market. Colombian emerald industry has, on average, 60% of the global market.
Morganite is a member of the beryl family that is named after one of the world's wealthiest bankers and gemstone enthusiasts, J. Morganite is the pink, peach or lilac variety of the mineral beryl. The colors range from pale to pretty good, but all Morganite is pale. The pink color of Morganite is due to trace amounts of manganese impurities in the beryl structure. Perhaps the highlight of the Bennett's gem history was the discovery of the 'Rose of Maine', an enormous Morganite beryl, by Dennis and Ron Holden.

Jul. 28, 2009 - pool wash your hair again before it dries

Look for sulfate free shampoos that are gentle and made for color treated hair.Sulfates will strip your hair and make it squeaky clean which is great for non color treated hair, but avoid them like the plague if you want to keep your color fresh. If you are planning on being outside alot or if you tan, use a hair product with a sunscreen. There are alot of these on the market now a days. As far as styling products go, most contain alcohol which can lend to the issue. I would love to say stay away from anything with alcohol in it, but it isn't the most realistic advice I can give. Many manufacturers have marketed alcohol free styling product but they never go over very well. Without the alcohol styling products just take way too long to dry and by the time they dry, your style is flat and your look like a wet dog with sticky hair. If you do happen to find a great hair styling product that is alcohol free then by all means use it! Otherwise just make sure you have a leave in product to buffer the bond between your hair and the product. This doesn't have to be a leave in conditioner that weighs your hair down. It can be a leave in reconstruct free styling cream or gloss. There are alot of things you can try for this purpose just read the labels and ask your stylist if you are unsure what will work for you.
Try out color depositing shampoos and conditioners. They are a great way to give your color new life between salon visits. Go for a color that will enhance the tone and base colors that you need to re deposit. Use at least once a week to maintain color and more often if you need more deposit. I also love semi permanent color to freshen color. Look for ammonia and peroxide free temporary hair color rinses that last four to six shampoos. These should be bottle to hair products. If you have to mix two things before application not temporary color! Your mixing a color and a developer no developer in temporary color. Its just basically like lip gloss for your hair. A color coating that washes back off with no damage and no permanent changes.
Wet your hair and apply a leave in conditioner before getting in the pool. If your hair is already saturated it will soak up less chlorine which fades color just like chlorine bleaches clothes out. After you get you out of the pool wash your hair again before it dries.Dont let the chorine harden into nasty deposits in your hair forcing the hair cuticle open and letting your color free to go down the drain.

Jul. 28, 2009 - not meet the aesthetic standards

Diamonds rate as a 10 on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness. Because of their resistance to scuffs and scratches, they can be polished very finely and retain their shine throughout time which is why so many jewelers offer money back guarantee diamonds. Diamonds are commonly used in wedding rings and engagement rings because they can resist the wear and tear of every day use.
Diamonds also possess an extremely high thermal conductivity. Most diamonds are useful as electrical insulators, though research and development is going into their potential as semiconductors. Some diamonds are already being used in this field, and a few blue diamonds act as natural semiconductors.
The diamonds that do not meet the aesthetic standards of a jewelry gemstone are usually used in industry. They are especially popular in cutting and grinding tools because they can polish, cut, and abrade any other material, including fellow diamonds.
