SERENGETI-MAASAI MARA GREAT MIGRATION

Just like in humans and commonly more among the pastoralists, the wildebeests in Tanzania and Kenya have what we call the great migration or call it the seventh great wonder of the world.

It is so amazing how animals like humans can sense the danger in water and food scarcity that they choose to migrate across a border that is from kenya to Tanzania vice verse.

These two national parks harbor a variety of animal species of all categories like herbivores, carnivorous, hoofed and none hoofed including the Big five just to mention but a few.gorilla safari

It is so fascinating how nature plans for its dependants and this is evident in how the predators in this case the leopards, lions, hyena and cheetahs not forgetting crocodiles feast on the not so strong herbivores like zebras, Buffaloes to mention but a few which herbivores are also in search for survival by migrating for greener pastures.uganda safari

you see life in the wild is all about interdependence where the fauna totally depends on the flora and in this case its the numbers of herbivores that increases with the flourishing grasslands and because of such reasons the predetors will also have enough small animals to feed on.

Back to the migration, this eye catching scenario takes place in late July and early August when the animals especially the herbivores are crossing River Mara, from Serengeti-Tanzania to Maasai Mara-Kenya in search of water and palatable grasslands.uganda safaris

During this great migration big herds of buffaloes, Zebras, Gazelles and the many species of Antelopes come running like a swam of bees through the serengeti national park now almost dry grasslands heading for the now flourishing Maasai Mara grasslands in kenya, little do they know that danger and death for some of them is just a few miles ahead only to be attacked by the hungry Lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyena on their way through the grasslands and later the crocodiles.gorilla watching uganda

The strong and quick survive and cross while the weak and sluggish meet their death as the saying goes, "survival for the fittest".

For these people who have watched at least one of the many migrations annually find the whole experience so fascinating and say it is an experience of a life time that at least everyone should see before they die.rwanda gorilla safari
